When old and new really work

Over the long Easter weekend we headed to Gruyeres where we visited the Chateau de Gruyeres, a castle perched on top of a large hill over 500 years old.

We went inside the chateau which was last decorated in the 1840's by the final owners and occupants of the chateau.  After this in the early 1900's it was bought by the local government, the chateau is now open for visitors and is also used as an exhibition space for artists and the like.

Currently, there is a photographer whose works feature throughout the Chateau de Gruyeres and it really complements the interior.  The artists name is Chantal Michel.

Chantal Michel features herself in all of her imagery and they have the appearance of vintage paintings and portraits.  The images are all dispayed behind glossy plexiglass for a bit of depth.  Some of her pieces are very interesting and add a cool dimension to the rooms and some are a little odd.  Overall a very interesing and very original artist...

wednesday - the evening pleasures

The sun doesn't set here at the moment until about 8.30pm.   We are fortunate enough to have an amazing position on the top floor of an apartment building only a few blocks from the lake of Geneva where we can really enjoy watching the sun go down.

Before the sun sets behind the French alps everything glows, the hawks begin to circle, people hit the streets walking to their favourtie restaurant and people are genuinely beginning to enjoy spring time.

I decided to take a few snaps this evening at about 6.30pm to share the moment with you... I hope you can see what I mean!

wednesday - my morning ritual

Now that I am settled in here in Geneva, I am starting to form my morning habits and rituals before I set off on my days adventures.  This is my favourite time of the day and I always look forward to going to bed just so I can wake up and it's morning already!

So now I introduce you to the 'Presso', one of my morning rituals...

You will have seen this cool contraption before on the internet which is where I discovered it and I love it! Boil the kettle, warm the portafilter & espresso cup, tamp down the coffee, top up the Presso with water and squeeze...

The result is a truly delightful morning brew!  Though I have yet to master getting the perfect crema on my espresso...
